Party Music (3-28-18)

[CW] Flash Fiction Challenge! Location: A Birthday Party | Object: A Radio

"Are you sure about this?" Posie asked his wife. She carried their daughter, Threnody, while they walked into a large, black portal floating in their living room. Two men awaited them in the dust covered wasteland on the other side. The tall one wore a polka dot party hat on his wavy, golden mane. The short one wore his party hat to the side of his bright blue mohawk. Its top tips barely reached the tall man’s armpits.

"Relax, honey. It'll be fun," Robin reassured her husband. She set Threnody on the ground and the toddler bolted to the short man. "Besides, it's her birthday and she wanted to."

"VEGAS!" the little girl yelled with glee. The short man knelt, ignoring the dirt, to give the little girl a hug.

"Threnny!" Vegas smiled and lifted the orange eyed girl to swing her around. "How's the birthday girl?"

"I'm two!" she answered. The two laughed between themselves while Robin and Posie looked to Regal.

"Are we ready?" Regal asked. The parents nodded, then Regal nodded to Vegas.

"Alright, shortcake. This Earth is empty, and I'll keep your parents safe. Go nuts, show us what you can do." Threnody looked around at the adults, then sighed.

"Daddy, you forgot it!" She stamped her foot in the dirt. Posie sighed, then turned to Regal.

"Hey Regal, portal please? " Regal smiled and pointed at Threnody. Posie turned his attention back to her. Threnody pulled something out of a small black hole, like the one they stepped through.

"I got it!" The two year old set her favorite radio down on the dirt, then pressed the PLAY button. Then she clapped her hands together and rubbed them while she began to glow with a golden aura. Music filled the air. "Now it's a party!"

Hugoverse Guidebook

This is where I will start storing information about my Universe to help add some context to my short stories.  Magic: Magic is a natural force present on all Earths, though not all Earths have a population that can tap into it. Once a Soul learns how to tap into magic on one Earth they can tap into the magic from other Earths. Nanos:   Microscopic machines that excel at efficiency. As a result they work together and learn to optimize the tasks they're trained for. On some Earths they allow Zeroes to tap into magic, while on other Earths they evolved to mimic magic.  AlterNet:  A network that allows users from alternate universes to communicate with each other. It is an Earth that is completely dominated by nanos. Earths with the right technology can project their consciousness to that Earth, and the nanos will form an artificial body for their consciousness. This is primarily used for gaming, and has essentially become a giant cross universe M...

B-Squad (6-29-18)

[WP] You have lived on earth your whole life. One morning, you wake up in the center of a modestly sized crater, as you look about you see fields of violet-tinted grass, a faint red sun in the sky overhead, and two moons in *much* closer orbit than our own. [ Link to post .] Lupe Villalobos standing around in a crater would not answer any questions. She reached up one of the sides gripping the violet grass around the upper rim of the hole. The texture of the violet grass felt the same as the green grass on Earth. The girl's coppery hair shimmered under the moonlight that she was making a point to ignore. She scanned the large field, turning slowly and staring out along the grassy plain.  "Whoaaaaa," Lupe whispered to herself. Despite the situation, she marveled at the beauty of wherever she was. The sight encouraged her to face the two moons she purposely kept at her back. She turned around and found that she could still feel surprised.  "Hi." Underneath...

AlterNet Entrance (5-6-18)

[WP] Sunday Free Write [ Link to post .] Dread stepped out of the black portal and into a bustling city teeming with people. Mirrored skycrapers tickled the underside of fluffy white clouds all around them, each of the glass buildings reflected some portion of brilliant gold sunlight onto the flowing crowds of people. Dread froze in awe taking in the sights until Dirge walked past her. "Come on, we gotta register you." Dirge walked toward a large green building, shorter than all the rest. It seemed to be the center of town. Dread noticed dozens of people going in and out of the building they were headed to. "Didn't I already register at Mundo's?" Dread asked. They reached the green building, but instead of joining the line that extended out of its doors and around its side Dirge walked in. Smooth white and black marble made up the floor and walls of the interior. Dread could find no rhyme or reason to the numerous signs that guided patrons to any num...
